Scientist Webinar - Omics Analysis for Brain Disorders

Presenters: Nicholas Seyfried, PhD, Associate Professor, Depts. of Biochemistry and Neurology, Emory School of Medicine; and, Eugenia Trushina, PhD, Associate Professor, Depts. of Neurology and Pharmacology, Director, Mitochondrial Neurobiology and Therapeutics Laboratory, Mayo Clinic. Progress towards the development of effective therapies for brain disorders is held back by a lack of understanding of pathological mechanisms. However, our understanding has been vastly improved by recent advances in systems biology: genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. Advances in metabolomics for example has demonstrated the complexity of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and other neurodegenerative conditions, as well as underscored the challenges in developing efficacious therapies. By defining systems-level mechanisms in neurodegenerative disease, insights into disease mechanisms can be garnered, biomarker panels can be advanced, and individualized medicine can be developed. The Scientist is bringing together a panel of experts to present their work and provide insight into the use of -omics in investigating neurological disorders. Topics to be covered: Integrative proteomics for novel target and biomarker discovery in Alzheimer’s Disease; and, The application of metabolomics for biomarker discovery in Alzheimer's Disease
