IACUC 101, 201 & 301

IACUC 101™: “The Basics” is a full day didactic and interactive educational opportunity for both new and seasoned IACUC members, IACUC affiliates and others who contribute to their institution’s animal care and use program. Didactic sessions address institutional responsibilities, IACUC charges, relevant informational resources, animal welfare laws, regulations and policies, and best practices. Students also are challenged to consider, deliberate, and develop action plans for a variety of potential IACUC scenarios. The course includes Q&A sessions with representatives from USDA, OLAW and AAALAC. IACUC 201: Beyond the Basics - Building on the basics, this highly interactive advanced program provides multiple opportunities to engage in real life applications of the basic concepts with the goals of learning new approaches and gaining new perspectives for managing issues that many animal care and use programs face. The course includes several active learning sessions as well as question and answer sessions with representatives of OLAW, USDA, and AAALAC. IACUC 301: “Scenarios” is a full day of IACUC scenarios that address a mix of straight forward to complex situations interspersed with Q&A sessions. Students will be presented with a variety of scenarios that address topics such as IACUC Membership, Protocol Review, Semiannual Review, Pain & Distress Categories, Records retention, Minority viewpoints, Regulated or Not, and More. Following an opportunity to “vote” on a correct response or action plan using Audio Response Cards, students will hear from experts representing AAALAC, OLAW and USDA who will present their positions on each scenario. There will also be two formal opportunities to pose questions to the experts during the day.
